the opportunity to bet
bets-
wagers placed on sporting events
betting unit-
the amount you pick to bet on each game
convert-
when a team goes from bad to good or vice-versa
bookie-
a person who takes sports bets
same as book or bookmaker
favorite-
the team picked by handicappers to win a sporting event
juice-
the 10% commission a bookie charges for handling bets
lay off-
not to bet
line-
a bookies list of games and point spreads
newspaper line-
the point spreads listed in the newspaper
usually the same as or very close to the bookmakers
off the board-
bookie term for not taking any bets on a certain game (common in college football)
pick-
no points involved. Sometimes called XX.
point spread-
the figure used to equalize a sport event
push-
two teams hit right on the point spread
parlay-
a bet in which the bettor couples 2 or more teams to win
spot-
same as point spread
sports book-
legal places to make a bet
underdog-
the team picked by handicappers to lose a sporting event
vigorish-
